Investing is not about getting rich overnight. There are different types of investment strategies. It is a process of learning, planning and reading the best books about money mindset. In the end money and your mindset about it could positively or negatively affect every aspect of your life.

If you are looking for practical investing strategies, financial planning tips, this article will not give you the answer to that. Please read my article on Stock Investment Strategies: How Much to Invest, What to Buy?

The reason why I wanted to share this general information with you, is so that you can better understand your relationship with money and take more confident steps toward your financial freedom.

Let’s talk you through some popular ways people invest.

The Types of Investments

Stocks

When you invest in a stock on the stock market, you are basically buying a tiny piece of a company.

If the company does well, your shares become more valuable. Stocks have been one of the most reliable ways to build wealth over time, however they do bounce around a lot, so you will need a bit of patience and adopt an effective money mindset.

ETFs

ETFs are like pre-packed baskets of investments. Instead of choosing one stock, you buy a whole mix at once. It is an easy way to diversify and spread your risk, even if you are new to investing.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin can grow fast and feels cutting-edge. Others avoid it. If you are curious about Bitcoin, think of it like riding a rollercoaster: thrilling, but you will need do your research and keep a calm and patient mindset.

Real Estate

Real estate is the old-school favourite. You buy a property and either rent it out for steady income or wait for it to increase in value and sell it later (preferably for profit).

It is tangible, but real estate usually requires a bigger upfront investment and a lot more effort than clicking “buy” on an app.

Commodities

Gold, silver oil, copper, are assets you can actually invest in too. Commodities tend to go up when inflation rises and you will notice it when your groceries seem suspiciously expensive.

Where Should You Start with Investing?

Honestly, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. You could invest in stocks and commodities as well as I do. Others prefer only bricks and go for real estate. Some dive into Bitcoin. The best strategy could be a mix, however starting small, learning as you go, is better than waiting forever because all feels overwhelming.

1. Start with what you can afford to invest without needing the money in the short and long term.

2. If you can afford more money, then follow the principle of many experts to invest a fixed percentage of your monthly income 10% to 20%, as part of a disciplined investing plan.

3. Only invest money that you do not need in the short and long term. A common  investment approach is to regularly invest 10% to 20% of your income.

Investment Risk Profile

Types of investment strategies come with choices. Your ideal investment depends on your goals, risk tolerance, and how long you would like to invest to gain returns.

Your risk tolerance profile is based on how you will react and handle fluctuations in the value of your investments. It reflects how comfortable you are with the possibility of losing money in the short term in exchange for potential long-term profit.

Risk Profile Description
Conservative You prefer stability and minimal loss. You will invest a small portion in your preferred assets.
Moderate You are willing to accept some market ups and downs.
Aggressive You are comfortable with big ups and downs for more potential returns. You will invest most of your income as your growth asset.

European Stockbroker

One of the stock platform tools I use is Trade Republic, one of the leading online brokerage platforms in Europe. The company is headquartered in Berlin, and are supervised by the BaFin (Federal Financial Supervisory Authority).

Trade Republic allows you to buy and sell Dutch, European, and American stocks securely. Savings plans are offered without commission and deposits are protected under the European deposit guarantee scheme, covering amounts up to EUR 100,000.

If you use my link, you receive a welcome bonus of EUR 30 in stocks available after completing the first transaction, typically credited to you within 21 days. I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. More Information.
